US feds sue Russian Bitcoin theft suspect for $100M

The US government's federal financial crime regulator is suing cryptocurrency exchange BTC-e owner Alexander Vinnik for $100 million for "violating the Bank Secrecy Act." In 2017, Vinnik was charged for stealing bitcoins. He’s been detained in Greece since July 2017, following an investigation by the US Department of Justice for money laundering.

US traders used the platform. However, BTC-e “made no effort to register with FinCEN, maintain any elements of an AML program, or report suspicious activity.” Vinnik, a Russian national, is facing extradition requests from both US and Russia.
