A 19-year-old man has been arrested and formally charged in a New York Supreme Court indictment over SIM-swapping identity and crypto theft. Brooklyn resident Yousef Selassie allegedly accessed accounts of 75 people across the US this year and stole over $1 million in cryptocurrency via SIM-swapping attacks. “...in just 4 months… with little more than an iPhone and computer,” said Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance.

Authorities searched his residence, they seized “numerous” electronic devices, a handwritten note containing a seed phrase for a cryptocurrency wallet and “multiple” pieces of custom-made jewelry that had been purchased with Bitcoin. Vance said this is the “3rd major SIM-swapping case” in recent months.
