Two Japanese mega-firms sign deal to build world’s largest Bitcoin mining facility in Texas

The operator of one of the world’s largest Bitcoin mining facilities signed a deal with Japanese financial services giant SBI and internet provider GMO. The two Japanese mega-firms agreed to process cryptocurrency transactions at a new mining facility, of unprecedented scale, now being developed in Rockdale, Texas. The facility will be operated by Whinstone, a subsidiary of Frankfurt-based Northern Bitcoin AG.

Whinstone — which has been operating since 2014 and has its own mining sites across the Netherlands, Sweden and the USA — had merged with Northern Bitcoin in November 2019, as the latter geared up to construct what is being slated as “the largest data center in North America and the largest Bitcoin mining facility in the world,” on an area of over 40 hectares.
