Taproot/Schnorr privacy enhancing protocol formally proposed as Bitcoin Improvement Proposal

posted 6 months ago
The Taproot/Schnorr proposal is officially published as BIPs 340, 341, 342. The technological change is expected to bring a privacy feature to the protocol by making all transactions – be it a simple payment between two parties, the opening or closing of a Lightning channel, or a sophisticated smart contract – look the same to outside observers.

Next steps include a pull request protocol implementation, and then network activation.
