An upstate New York power plant is using its own electricity to mine Bitcoin, on an industrial scale. Greenidge Generation, a natural gas power plant in upstate New York, successfully installed a new $65 million Bitcoin mining farm.

With 7,000 mining rigs, and powered by electricity generated on-site, the facility can mine an average of 5.5 bitcoins every day, which is roughly $50,000. Greenidge operates year round and its server farm consumes 14 megawatts of the 106 megawatts Greenidge has capacity for, which is enough electricity to power 11,000 average US homes.
