Bitcoin developers propose a security & efficiency improvement via Erlay

posted about 2 months ago
A proposal submitted through the Bitcoin Core development mailing list aims to improve Bitcoin transaction security and efficiency. However, it has not yet been formally proposed as a Bitcoin Improvement Proposal, and is only up for discussions.

Named Erlay, it is described as "The main idea is that instead of announcing every transaction to every peer, announcements are only sent directly over a small number of connections...This mitigates timing attacks and significantly reduces the probability of in-flight collisions...” which reduces node bandwidth.
